I haven't blogged, not because nothing has been happening, but because it has been a bit crazy. Beginning with Saturday.
Saturday-
I went in town in the afternoon with Jenna and Laurel and we met Goncalo and his friend Sjuenna for lunch at the Indalo. Everyone's kids just run around and the waiters pick them up and take them back to the tables and play with them. I realized that this is the place to have kids. You can just sit in a restaurant all day. All the stores are closed on Saturday - at least the majority of them, and all of them are closed 2pm-5pm. At night we took off to Kapital, a seven-story club in Madrid.
The first floor was a giant floor of techno and house music with a stage of professional dancers. I call it the "Mingle Floor". The second floor consisted of stretched corridors with couches, the coat check, and the DJ at the center. I'd say it was the "Do You Come Home With Me Tonight?" Floor. For me, it was just the "Coat Check Floor," of course. The third was the "American Floor" - chalk full of popular and popular-8-years-ago American Hip-Hop. The smallest of all dance floors for sure. The fourth floor was where we found our niche. It was the "Cocktail Bar Floor". Literally, it was just a cocktail bar with couches. The fifth was the "Reggaeton/Spanish Floor," my personal favorite. The sixth floor was a movie theater, hence "Movie Theater Floor" or "Make Out Floor" would suffice. Although, PDA does not have quite as poor of a reputation as it has in America. Ay de mi. And the seventh is the "Wedding Floor." It's a mirror image of a wedding reception.
We got there around midnight and stayed until 5:30a.m. We made it home in the freezing, freezing, freezing cold by 7:15a.m. and I was in bed by 8a.m. It was unforgettable. It has definitely been my favorite night thus far. I danced the whole night away, met a girl from Chicago, a guy from Brazil, a Spanish Women's Professional Basketball Team, and Goncalo came, which was a ton of fun.
Sunday -
I slept. Took a walk with Navid and we found the University gym/climbing wall/equestrian "area"! Ate. Tried to watch a movie and instead completely passed out.
Monday -
Class was fine. I enjoy all of my professors, but I'm still getting accustomed to this 9am-1:30pm schedule when the coffee here is the size of a bottle of Tylenol. In my class there are a couple people from China. My friend, Lin, taught Jenna and me the pronunciation of the Chinese alphabet. He also e-mailed me in Chinese by accident. Whoohoo! I got an e-mail in a totally different language that I can't understand at all! Guey! (Cool!)
For lunch we went to El Burrito with our Australian friend, Mary - yup, Mexican food in Spain. It doesn't taste quite Mexican. Our waiter, Jose, is from the Dominican Republic and I tried out our new vocab from conversation class - You should come out/party/hang out with us! We exchanged numbers and I can only see this relationship flourishing. At the end of the meal he gave us free shots (and a half) of tequila and I can't say that was the best decision I've ever made. We had Don Quijote class after and I found it more entertaining than usual, which I would say is a 9 instead of a 10 on a scale of boredom. After class Hernan, our teacher, took us out for coffee and if I was blind I'd have thought it was a completely different person. He was awesome.
Tuesday-
My friend, Kristen, has been really sick and when we got home after class we decided to go to the hospital. We were in the ER for six hours. It was pretty awful, but Kristen, Emily, Navid, and me bonded, even though I passed out in the waiting room for most of the time. I've never seen such a well-dressed ER. The people here have such style - it's incredible. Finally, Kristen was diagnosed with a respiratory infection and was prescribed Augmentin. However, you have to go to a pharmacy outside of the hospital to get the medicine. We got on a bus, and thank heavens, the driver spoke some English, because we were so exhausted and he got us to a pharmacy, which was the exact opposite of the hospital service. It was one for the grandkids, as Kristen says.
Today-
I went to class. We did our typical trip to La Tertuleria during our 30min. break in the morning with Mary. Navid made lunch for Emily, Harry, and me in Harry's room. He taught us some Australian culture and Emily and I basically laughed at everything he said after he called a drinking fountain a bubbler. I napped, went to D.Q. class, and that's about it. Vive Espana. :)
